Health Care    HEALTH BODY CALLS FOR URGENT BUDGET ACTION
Catholic Health Australia has called for an urgent injection of funding for extra nurses, care staff and essential supplies to ensure Australians receive the quality and safety they expect from the country's nursing homes and hostels.
CHA's Executive Director, Francis Sullivan, said yesterday: "The pressure on residential aged care staffing levels and the squeeze on funding is becoming unsustainable."
He added: "The Government's reforms require a two pronged attack on the rate of funding. Last year the Government amended its coalescence policy to ease the rate at which all states would reach national uniform subsidies for care funding. However, the Government must now move on the rate at which services are funded for cost increases and the growth in demand for services by frailer and sicker residents."
