Europe    KUNG SAYS CHURCH IN 'UNHEALTHY SITUATION'
Prominent theologian Hans Kung has said the shortage of priests, the estrangement of women and young people from the Catholic Church, and episcopal intimidation by the Roman Curia has put the church in a "very unhealthy situation."
Fr Kung, 71, a professor of theology at the University of Tubingen, Germany, referred specifically to the situation in the United States and Europe when he said: "You only have to look at the seminaries, our parishes without priests, and the women who have left the church, at least the younger ones. And women were always the most faithful."
