|Italy||SICILIAN PRIEST POISONED DURING MASS|
A Sicilian priest was in critical condition on Friday after a church worker put poison in the sacramental wine before Mass.
Father Alfio Pappalardo, 66, collapsed behind the altar after drinking from the chalice during Mass on Thursday night at the Basilica of Pedara. A police spokesman said the 53-year-old sacristan allegedly put an herbicide in the wine and was arrested a few hours after the poisoning when the herbicide was found in his home.
The priest and the sacristan, who had tended the church for more than 20 years, had been involved in a bitter dispute over the sacristan's benefits.
