Hong Kong    CARITAS CAUTIONS HOPEFUL REFUGEES
A Caritas official in Hong Kong has said that the remaining Vietnamese awaiting resettlement there should not place too much hope on going overseas.
Refugee service supervisor Brenda Ku Wing-chee said: ``Those who can leave have already left,''
But she added that some refugees could still apply to go abroad on the grounds of reunions.
1400 Vietnamese have remained in detention in Hong Kong for many years awaiting resettlement. The government has just announced that some of this number would now be permitted to apply for identity cards and integrate into the local community.
