Five women consultants will join six Bishops on a committee overseeing the implementation of recommendations on women's participation in the Church in Australia.
They include pastoral workers, a former Director of the Affirmative Action Agency, a member of the Aboriginal Catholic Ministry, and a representative of religious congregations.
Dr Marie Macdonald, who chaired the Ad Hoc Committee that prepared the recommendations flowing from the report Woman and Man: One in Christ Jesus, will act as an Executive Officer to the Implementation Committee, which was set up last November by the Bishops' Conference.
Its immediate task is to study the recommendations presented to the Bishops' Conference by Dr Marie Macdonald's Committee and to report to the Plenary Meeting of Conference in May. The full Implementation Committee will hold its first meeting in Sydney on 6 March.
